Blimey, May was a busy one! From creative sparks to big conversations and digging in at the station, it’s been non-stop here at LonGBoaT. Whether you joined us in person, shouted us out online, or just cheered us on from afar: thank you! Here’s a proper round-up of what we got up to…

Armed with tools, smiles and a good brew or two, we got stuck into transforming the planters, sprucing up the gardens and making the space feel more welcoming for everyone. We also gave our community banner a refresh! It was a lovely day full of teamwork and laughter – exactly what LonGBoaT’s all about. Read all about it here.
We took some time to reflect on the ongoing impact of April’s Supreme Court ruling on EHRC guidance.

One month on, we explored what it really means for the LGBTQ+ community, especially around safety and inclusion. It’s a tough topic, but we’re committed to facing it head-on – and making sure our Safe Space Scheme continues to support those who need it most. You can read our thoughts here.

We put a call out for new trustees to join our board! We're looking for passionate, community-minded folks who care about equality and want to shape the direction of LonGBoaT. Whether you’ve got loads of experience or you’re completely new to charity work, we want to hear from you. Find out more here.

This stunning work is full of heart and memory, honouring lives lost and celebrating those still with us. It’s been lovely to see visitors engaging with it in such a meaningful way. Read the story behind it here.

We had a fab day exploring the UK’s national LGBTQ+ museum, learning more about queer history and representation. From protest placards to fashion statements, the exhibits sparked some brilliant conversations – and a fair few laughs on the train journey too. You can see what we got up to here.

We threw open the doors of our Community Gallery and welcomed folks in to enjoy a special evening of local art, conversation and connection. It was brilliant to see so many friendly faces exploring our creative space at Wakefield Kirkgate. The vibe was buzzing, and we’re already looking forward to the next one. If you missed it, catch up here.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was the right one. We’re still working hard behind the scenes to create inclusive spaces where local people can connect with inclusive employers – and we’ll keep everyone updated on future plans. You can read the update here.
That’s May in a nutshell!
We’re so proud of everything we’ve done this month – and even prouder of the amazing people who make it all happen. June’s already looking exciting, so keep your eyes peeled.
Until then – stay safe, stay proud, and we’ll see you soon down at the Hub 💛
