LonGBoaT Wakefield CIO is looking for passionate, committed people to join our Trustee Board to help us deliver our 5 year strategy. We are currently recruiting for the following voluntary positions:

  • General Trustee

  • Secretary (to the Board of Trustees)

If you care about creating inclusive, safer spaces for LGBT+ people in Wakefield and want to make a lasting difference in your community, this could be your chance to get involved.

About the Roles

Secretary

The Secretary is a vital role that supports good governance. You’ll help organise Trustee meetings, maintain records, and ensure that all legal and administrative duties are carried out properly. If you’re organised and good with detail, this could be a great fit.

General Trustee

As a General Trustee, you’ll support the strategic direction and governance of LonGBoaT. You’ll work with fellow Trustees to make key decisions about our projects, partnerships, funding, and long-term goals.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and especially encourage members of the LGBT+ community to apply. Prior experience as a Trustee is not essential – we’re looking for commitment, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.

What We’re Looking For

  • A shared belief in LonGBoaT’s values of inclusion, respect and community.

  • A willingness to commit time (minimum 10 hours per month + attendance at monthly Trustee board meeting).

  • Openness to collaborative working and learning new things.

  • Some knowledge or interest in charity governance is useful, but not required.

  • Meets the Charity Commission Requirements (as stated below)

What LonGBoaT Offers Its Trustees

Becoming a Trustee with LonGBoaT Wakefield is a rewarding experience and we’re committed to supporting you throughout your time with us.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Induction and Ongoing Training

Comprehensive induction to help you understand your role and responsibilities. Access to training workshops, safeguarding, diversity & inclusion, and other relevant topics.

  • Development Opportunities

Opportunities to develop your skills in leadership, communication, fundraising, and community engagement.

  • Supportive Environment

A friendly, inclusive board that values your input and supports your growth.

  • Access to Networks

Connection to local partners, LGBT+ organisations, and broader community networks across Wakefield and Yorkshire.

  • Reimbursement of Reasonable Expenses

We cover reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred while carrying out trustee duties.

  • A Meaningful Role

The chance to make a real difference by helping shape services and safe spaces for the LGBT+ community locally.
