There’s a fresh addition to the Wakefield Kirkgate Community Gallery – and it’s something really special. The Tree of Life, created by volunteers and service users from Wakefield Hospice’s Creative Group, was recently installed by Jo from the Hospice and our Vice Chair, Chris.

Chris removes the old display.

The group, supported by the Hospice’s outreach team, ran for ten weeks and gave people living with or affected by life-limiting conditions a space to talk, connect, and get creative. As well as exploring what hospice and end-of-life care looks like locally, the group came together to produce a powerful piece of art that’s now on display in the station.

The Tree of Life is all about connection, remembrance and strength. It’s a bold, thoughtful piece that invites people passing through Kirkgate to pause for a moment and reflect.

This new work takes the place of Coal to Nature by Empath CIC – but part of that earlier display still has pride of place in the ticket hall, keeping the link between exhibitions alive.

We’re proud to host this latest installation and to keep shining a light on local voices and creativity. If you’re in the area, pop down and take a look.
