We were really excited to take part in our very first Wakefield Art Walk on Wednesday 28th May 2025 – and what a brilliant evening it was.

Joining dozens of other venues across the city centre, we opened up the Community Gallery at Wakefield Kirkgate Station and welcomed in walkers, art lovers, and curious passers-by to see our latest installation – The Tree of Life by Wakefield Hospice. It was great to be part of such a buzzing creative scene and to show off some of the powerful, meaningful artwork being created in our part of the district.

Our Community Gallery might be tucked away on Platform 2/3 at a railway station, but it was brilliant to see people making the journey down and engaging with the stories behind the art. We had some really lovely conversations on the night – and we’re already looking forward to taking part again.

What is the Wakefield Art Walk?

If you’ve never been, the Wakefield Art Walk is a bi-monthly event that takes place on the last Wednesday of every other month (January, March, May, July, September and November). It's a free, self-guided trail that takes you through Wakefield city centre, connecting galleries, studios, shops, bars and public spaces – all showcasing local artists and creative projects.

Run by the team at Artwalk Wakefield, the event brings together a proper mix of venues – from established art spaces like The Art House and Yorkshire Sculpture Park’s city centre shop, to pop-ups, independent businesses and community groups like ours.

It’s a brilliant way to spend an evening, discover new talent, and see just how much creativity there is packed into our city. And it’s completely free to join in – no need to book, just turn up and follow the map which can be collected from any venue.

We’re chuffed to have been included this time round and proud to be part of Wakefield’s creative community. If you didn’t catch us in May, keep your eyes peeled – we’ll be back for future Art Walks with more local stories and artwork to share.
