Recently, local MP Simon Lightwood visited the LonGBoaT Hub at Wakefield Kirkgate, where we engaged in vital discussions about the needs of the LGBT+ community in our city. As a newly established charity, we are committed to facilitating positive change, and having Simon on board as an ally is invaluable.
During the meeting, we outlined the specific challenges faced by the LGBT+ community in Wakefield. From access to inclusive services to tackling discrimination and fostering a sense of belonging, the conversation was rich with insights. Simon listened attentively, sharing his experiences and understanding of the community's needs. His willingness to engage in dialogue about these pressing issues signals a positive step forward for the advocacy of LGBT+ rights in our area.
As a local representative, Simon Lightwood is dedicated to ensuring that all voices in Wakefield are heard and represented. We explored various initiatives that the LonGBoaT Hub could implement to support the LGBT+ community, including educational
programmes, social events, and outreach efforts aimed at creating safe spaces for everyone. Simon emphasised the importance of collaboration between local government, community organisations, and charities like ours to effectively address these needs and bring about lasting change.
In addition to our discussions on LGBT+ issues, we also touched upon the ongoing Wakefield Kirkgate Station Adoption Project. This initiative aims to enhance the passenger experience at one of our city's key transport hubs. Simon expressed his enthusiasm for improving the station's facilities and services, which would not only benefit commuters but also attract more visitors to Wakefield. By creating a welcoming and efficient environment, we can encourage more people to explore our vibrant city.
