LonGBoaT Wakefield is delighted to welcome Lila Blake Gahan to our Board of Trustees as a General Trustee. Lila brings a wealth of experience in community organising, advocacy, and grassroots activism, and we are thrilled to have her join us in shaping the future of our organisation.
Lila has a long-standing commitment to community service and representation, beginning with her involvement in TransWakefield, where she served as a committee member. In this role, she contributed to strategic planning and the delivery of initiatives designed to support the transgender community in Wakefield. Her experience in grassroots advocacy has deepened her understanding of the challenges faced by marginalised groups and strengthened her skills in leadership and organisational development.
Since becoming involved with LonGBoaT Wakefield, Lila has represented the charity in meetings with Our House, Vinyl Social, and Hogarths, gathering vital information to inform our work. By joining the Trustee Board, she aims to further her dedication to transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership, ensuring that LonGBoaT continues to serve the community effectively.
Lila’s Vision as a Trustee
As a trustee, Lila has identified several key priorities that align with LonGBoaT’s mission:
Enhancing Community Engagement – Strengthening the relationship between LonGBoaT and the individuals we serve, amplifying underrepresented voices, and ensuring that our initiatives reflect the needs of the LGBT+ community.
Supporting Sustainable Projects – Helping to develop long-term strategies that will ensure the charity’s resilience, securing funding and resources for impactful programmes.
Building Stronger Partnerships – Continuing her work in community organising to foster meaningful collaborations with other local organisations, ensuring that LonGBoaT remains a key voice in Wakefield’s LGBT+ advocacy efforts.
Lila shares, “Becoming a Trustee of LonGBoaT represents an opportunity to further my dedication to community service and advocacy. By elevating my position onto the board of trustees, I can continue my community organising work in a more efficient and clear-cut way without any confusion about what I am doing as a part of LonGBoaT.”
Looking Ahead
We are excited about the passion and expertise Lila brings to the Trustee Board. Her dedication to inclusion, representation, and strategic development will be invaluable as we continue to expand our work within the Wakefield district.
Please join us in welcoming Lila Blake Gahan to the LonGBoaT Wakefield Trustee Team!
