As part of the our Community Pride Fringe Event, LonGBoaT have arranged for guest speakers to provide Queers Talks about their own areas of expertise. We have strived to gather a variety of local speakers so you can find out more about LGBTQ+ lived experiences and support. The Queer Talks will be hosted at the Unitarian Chapel (Westgate, WF1 1XR) from 11am to 2.30pm on Sunday 10th August.
11am - Our first speaker will be Jo Nicholson from Turning Point, who will give an overview of the mental health workshops that they offer.
11.20am - Maria Jones from Wakefield Hospice will be dispelling myths about hospice care and highlighting the person-centred approach they use when supporting people.
11.40am - Chris Cook from Prince of Wales Hospice will be exploring what the phrase "quality of life" means, how this can be promoted in both the hospice and the community, and potential barriers to people achieving quality of life.
12.20pm - Gill Isles, BAFTA Winning Producer of Car Share, Alma's Not Normal, and Man Like Mobeen. Gill will be talking through her career and achievements.
1pm - Michelle Pitchforth from HMP Wakefield will be giving an insight into a day in the life at one of England's most notorious prisons, from the perspectives of the prison officers and the inmates.
1.40pm - Tony Kimmince-Cooke will be sharing his personal account of surviving and building a life following domestic abuse.
2pm - Our final speaker will be Steph Millar-Pollock from Spectrum Health, who will be providing information about supporting queer children and young people.
