We are thrilled to announce that LonGBoaT Wakefield has been awarded funding from the Sir George Martin Trust to support two key projects: our LGBT+ Parent Support Groups and the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Job & Careers Fair. This funding marks a significant step forward in our mission to provide inclusive spaces and opportunities for the LGBT+ community and beyond.

LGBT+ Parent Support Groups

We are launching, in March 2025 two dedicated parent groups: one for LGBT+ parents and another for parents of LGBT+ children. Each group will provide a safe, non-judgemental space for parents to connect, share experiences, and access specialist support. The groups will be held monthly, featuring guest speakers and resources to help navigate the challenges of parenting within the LGBT+ community.

EDI Job & Careers Fair

Our first EDI Job & Careers Fair will connect local businesses, employers, and voluntary organisations with individuals who have Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) needs. The fair will showcase inclusive employers that prioritise diverse workplaces, offering a platform for attendees to explore job opportunities, career development, and training pathways. With 30-40 exhibitors expected, this event will help strengthen connections between employers and job seekers from underrepresented communities.

LGBT+ individuals and those with additional EDI needs often face barriers in employment, social inclusion, and accessing tailored support. Our projects will provide a much-needed support network, fostering greater understanding, empowerment, and inclusivity within the Wakefield community.
