Happy Pride Month everyone! 🌈

June is always a special time in the LGBT+ calendar. It's a chance to celebrate who we are, reflect on how far we've come, and spend time with the people and communities that support us; make us feel accepted and valued.
Pride means different things to different people. For some it's a celebration. For others it's about visibility and protest. For many, it's simply about knowing they are not alone. This year feels particularly important.

Many people across our community have found the past year challenging. We've seen difficult conversations taking place in politics, the media and online. We've seen growing uncertainty for some members of our community, particularly trans people, and we've seen voices trying to create division where there should be understanding.
But if there's one thing that Pride reminds us of, it's that the LGBT+ community has always been strongest when we stand together.
Our community has faced challenges before. We have overcome them through friendship, solidarity, kindness and by looking out for one another. That hasn't changed.
Here in Wakefield, we're constantly inspired by the people we meet. Whether it's someone attending their first social event, joining a gardening session, popping into a coffee morning, volunteering at Kirkgate Station, or simply stopping for a chat, we're reminded every day that community matters.

At LonGBoaT Wakefield, we're here for all LGBT+ people across the Wakefield district.
We know that not everyone has supportive friends or family around them. We know that some people are still exploring who they are. We know that some people are looking for friendship, others for support, and some just want somewhere they can relax and be themselves.
That's exactly why we do what we do. Every week we offer opportunities to get involved, including:
☕ Coffee mornings at our Hub at Wakefield Kirkgate Railway Station
🌱 Gardening and horticulture sessions
🚉 Wakefield Kirkgate Station Adoption volunteering
🎨 Community arts, heritage and gallery projects
🏳️🌈 Weekly Queer Social events
🤝 Safe Space initiatives and community partnerships
💙 Signposting and support
🙌 Volunteer opportunities for people wanting to make a difference
We're also proud to be a Hate Crime Reporting Centre. Nobody should experience abuse because of their sexuality, gender identity or any other part of who they are. If you have experienced a hate crime or hate incident, we're here to help you access support and report it.

Whether you're lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, non binary, queer, questioning, an ally, or somewhere else under the LGBT+ umbrella, you'll always find a warm welcome at LonGBoaT Wakefield.
We're also looking forward to getting out and about during Pride Month. You'll be able to find us at Pontefract Pride on 20th and 21st June, where we'll be celebrating alongside friends, allies and communities from across the district.

As we celebrate Pride Month 2026, we'd like to thank everyone who supports our work. Our volunteers, members, partners and supporters help make Wakefield a more welcoming place for LGBT+ people every single day.
So whether this month is your first Pride or your fiftieth, we hope you'll find time to celebrate, connect with others and remember that you are part of a community that cares.
Be proud, be yourself and lets look after one another And remember, whatever your journey looks like, there's always a place for you at LonGBoaT Wakefield.
Happy Pride Month from all of us at LonGBoaT Wakefield. 🌈
