Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting with Charlie and Sharon from Star Community Housing to discuss the potential for LGBT+ community housing in the Wakefield district. As Star expands its services into the north of England, they are keen to explore how they can work with us to provide safe, inclusive, and supportive housing for LGBT+ individuals in need.
A Future Partnership for Inclusive Housing
During our initial meeting, we discussed the potential for Star to set up LGBT+ community housing to serve individuals in Wakefield who may be facing housing insecurity, discrimination, or social isolation; similar to a scheme they have with Stonewall Housing in Brighton. Having a dedicated safe housing scheme would offer a much-needed refuge for those who often struggle to find inclusive and understanding accommodation options.
This was an exciting and productive discussion, and we are pleased to announce that further meetings and property viewings are being scheduled to explore how our CIO and Star’s CIC can work together. This partnership has the potential to create meaningful change, ensuring that LGBT+ individuals in Wakefield have access to safe, stable, and affirming housing options.
We will keep our community updated as we move forward with these discussions and explore how this initiative can be developed to best serve those in need. Stay connected with LonGBoaT Wakefield for future updates!
