Coming Soon: Blood Pressure Monitoring

Writer: LonGBoaT WakefieldLonGBoaT Wakefield

In late January, David, our Chair of Trustees, met with Tracey from the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Laura from Public Health to discuss an exciting new initiative for our community. As a result of this meeting, LonGBoaT Wakefield will soon be able to offer blood pressure monitoring to all our service users at our events.

Why This Matters

LGBT+ individuals often face barriers to healthcare, including discrimination, lack of culturally competent services, and fear of negative experiences. This can lead to poorer health outcomes and undiagnosed conditions. By offering accessible blood pressure checks, we are taking a step towards breaking down these barriers and empowering our community to take charge of their health in a safe and supportive environment.

Training Opportunities for Volunteers

This initiative also brings valuable training opportunities for our volunteers. David and our new Volunteering and Training Officer, Taylor, will be the first to undergo training in blood pressure monitoring. Once trained, they will pass on their knowledge to other volunteers and trustees, ensuring this service remains a sustainable and long-term offering at LonGBoaT Wakefield events.

We are excited to bring this new health-focused initiative to our community and will provide further updates as training progresses and blood pressure monitoring becomes available at our events. Stay tuned for more details soon!
