LonGBoaT Wakefield have teamed up with Groundwork Yorkshire with funding from the Uk Government's Shared Prosperity Fund to bring something exciting to brighten up Wakefield Kirkgate Station, and you’re invited to be part of it.
From Tuesday 23rd September 2025, a brand-new, completely free community programme is launching, bringing together community art and gardening at the station. Whether you fancy getting your hands mucky with green projects or letting your creativity loose with a paintbrush, there’s something for everyone.
You can dip in and out of sessions or stick with us for the whole journey – it’s up to you.
🌿 Gardening sessions (mornings, 10am–12pm or 12.30–2.30pm) will cover all sorts – from mini terrariums and bird boxes to wreath making, composting, propagation techniques and even tree grafting.
🎨 Art sessions (afternoons, 2–4pm) will be inspired by Keith Haring and Henri Matisse – think bold colours, collages, murals and a final exhibition right inside Kirkgate Station.
And don’t worry about travel – public transport costs up to £5 a day will be covered, so it’s really easy to join in.
