Wakefield Kirkgate Volunteering Day: February 2025 Update

Writer: LonGBoaT WakefieldLonGBoaT Wakefield

Despite the cold and wet weather, our dedicated volunteers turned out on Saturday 8th February 2025 for another successful Wakefield Kirkgate Volunteering Day. Their hard work and commitment continue to make a real difference in transforming the station into a more welcoming space for the community.

What We Achieved

The main task for the day was relocating disused planters from their original spot on Platform 1 to a new home on Platforms 2 & 3. This move is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the station’s appearance and make better use of available space.

After braving the elements, we took time to warm up and develop a new “Adopt a Planter” scheme, which will allow individuals, businesses, and community groups to get involved in maintaining and beautifying the station through sponsored planting. Full details of the scheme will be released soon, but if you’re interested in getting involved, please visit: www.longboatwakefield.org/volunteering.

Join Us Next Time!

Our next Wakefield Kirkgate Volunteering Day is scheduled for Saturday 8th March 2025. This session will also include the Wakefield Heritage Network Consultation Event, where attendees can share ideas on how we can celebrate and protect local heritage.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part—your dedication is helping to make Wakefield Kirkgate a greener, more inviting space for all!
