On Saturday, 17th December 2024, LonGBoat Wakefield volunteers Taylor, David & Chris took the first steps in revitalising Wakefield Kirkgate as part of our Adoption Scheme.

Despite the challenges posed by Storm Darragh, our determined team set to work in the subway, addressing years of neglect and grime.

Armed with brushes, scrubbing pads, and plenty of determination, we:

  • Cleaned layers of dirt from surfaces and handrails.

  • Restored the artwork and advertising hoardings.

  • Removed countless spider webs from lighting fixtures.

This is just the beginning. The Wakefield Kirkgate Adoption Scheme is a long-term project aimed at transforming the station into a space the entire community can enjoy.

Our next volunteering days are scheduled for:

  • Saturday, 11th January 2025

  • Saturday, 8th February 2025

  • Saturday, 8th March 2025

We’re inviting individuals, groups, and organisations to join us. Whether you can spare a few hours or want to become a regular volunteer, your help is invaluable.
